Data Center Site Risk Data: Flood, Seismic, Heat and Water

We hold 3,400 hazard values for 2,381 data center sites in 105 markets, read from government hazard services at each facility's coordinates: heat for every site, and FEMA flood zones and USGS seismic design values for United States sites, each with the query, the date and the location precision.

What is in the site risk dataset?

Data center site risk data places each facility on public hazard maps, so its exposure to flood, earthquake, heat and water stress can be compared across a portfolio.

Insurers and lenders need exposure by site, not by country. The hazard maps exist, but they are published by dozens of agencies in different formats. We read each facility's coordinates against the official map and keep the source.

What is inside the dataset

One row per fact, linked by id to the facility, the operator and the market, so it joins with every other DC Market Insights dataset.

Why you can rely on it

  1. Primary sources first. We never copy data center directories, research publishers or press-release wires. This dataset is built from:
    • FEMA National Flood Hazard Layer (United States)
    • USGS Seismic Design Maps, ASCE 7-22 (United States)
    • NASA POWER climatology (worldwide heat: cooling degree days and maximum temperatures)
    • Further national hazard maps as each country is added
  2. The words and the date. Each value is stored with the source link, the exact sentence it comes from and the date it was true.
  3. A second, independent check. Every value is checked again against its source before it is stored. Values that cannot be confirmed are dropped.
  4. History, not overwrites. A new value is a new record, so changes in dates, MW and status stay visible.
  5. Our estimates are labelled. Anything we compute, such as a value per MW, is marked derived or DC Market Insights estimate.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the risk data come from?

Only from government and intergovernmental hazard datasets, read at each facility's coordinates. Every value names the dataset and its edition.

How precise is the location?

Each facility says whether its coordinates come from the source address or from the city centre. City-level points are flagged so they are not over-read.

Can you score our own list of sites?

Yes. Send addresses or coordinates; we return each hazard value with its source and date.
