DC Market Insights expects a further 45.9% rise in 2026, to USD 533.00 billion, before growth settles to single digits in the early 2030s as AI hall density rises and accelerator prices per unit of compute fall.
AI and accelerated servers already account for 67.4% of 2025 value and reach 83.7% by 2035. The order books of the largest suppliers show how far demand runs ahead of shipments: Dell closed more than USD 64 billion of AI-optimized server orders in fiscal 2026 and shipped more than USD 25 billion, and by the second quarter of fiscal 2027 its AI backlog had reached a record USD 95 billion.

Market Scope: What Does the Data Center Server Market Cover?
The Data Center Server Market covers complete server systems installed in data centers, valued at first sale by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or original design manufacturer (ODM) in current US dollars, with 2025 as the base year and forecasts to 2035. DC Market Insights sizes it at USD 365.40 billion in 2025.
Included. General-purpose rack, blade and multi-node servers with x86, Arm or other host processors; storage-dense servers used for software-defined and object storage; AI and accelerated servers carrying GPUs, custom application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) or other accelerators; and rack-scale integrated systems sold as a complete rack of compute trays, switch trays and power shelves.
Excluded. External storage arrays, data center switches and routers sold separately, optical transceivers and cables, accelerator cards sold on their own, software licenses and support contracts, edge and embedded servers outside data center buildings, mainframes, and installation and integration labor.
How the segments fit together. The server-type, processor-architecture, form-factor, vendor-model and end-user splits each re-cut the same USD 365.40 billion. The accelerated segment is consistent with the compute layer of our AI Infrastructure Market report, which also counts accelerator modules sold outside complete servers.
Market Drivers: What Drives the Data Center Server Market?
Three drivers explain most of the growth in the Data Center Server Market: AI servers that sell for about 19 times the price of a general-purpose server, capital spending by the 14 largest publicly owned data center operators that BloombergNEF sees close to USD 750 billion in 2026, and a refresh of general-purpose server fleets.
AI Servers Average USD 178,500 a Unit, 19 Times a General-Purpose Server
An eight-GPU training server or a rack-scale compute tray carries accelerators, high-bandwidth memory, high-speed networking and liquid cooling, so one unit carries the value of a small rack of conventional servers. DC Market Insights estimates the 2025 average selling price of an AI and accelerated server at USD 178,500, against USD 9,450 for a general-purpose server, and models AI server units rising from about 1.38 million in 2025 to 3.66 million in 2035. The supplier figures point the same way: NVIDIA reported Data Center revenue of USD 193.74 billion in fiscal 2026, up 68%, of which USD 31.38 billion was networking, and its Data Center revenue reached USD 89.00 billion in the second quarter of fiscal 2027 alone, up 117%. Supermicro reported fiscal 2026 net sales of USD 39.10 billion against USD 22.00 billion a year earlier (Source: Supermicro filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission).
Operator Capital Spending Rises Toward USD 750 Billion
BloombergNEF expects the capital expenditure of the 14 largest publicly owned data center operators to come close to USD 750 billion in 2026, against a little less than USD 450 billion in 2025, and it counted more than 23 GW of data center capacity under construction worldwide at the end of September 2025, with 15.9 GW in the United States. DC Market Insights estimates that hyperscale cloud providers bought USD 201.70 billion of servers in 2025, 55.2% of the market.
General-Purpose Server Value Grows from USD 119.07 Billion to USD 214.60 Billion
DC Market Insights views the current rise in general-purpose spending as a refresh of fleets that were kept in service while budgets went to AI. Dell’s traditional servers and networking revenue rose 9% to USD 19.51 billion in fiscal 2026, then 92% to USD 8.50 billion in the first quarter of fiscal 2027 and 122% to USD 10.50 billion in the second quarter. DC Market Insights models general-purpose and storage-dense servers growing from USD 119.07 billion in 2025 to USD 214.60 billion in 2035.
Market Trends: How Is the Data Center Server Changing?
The Data Center Server Market is shifting from single servers to complete racks, from x86 toward Arm host processors, and from merchant GPUs toward a mix that includes custom ASICs.
Rack-Scale Systems Reach 48.6% of Server Value by 2035
Large AI buyers now order complete racks, integrated and tested at the factory. DC Market Insights values rack-scale integrated systems at USD 100.48 billion (27.5%) in 2025 and forecasts USD 638.15 billion by 2035, a CAGR of 20.31%. Factory capacity is being built for that model: Supermicro said in July 2026 that it can deliver up to 3,000 AI racks a month, including 2,000 liquid-cooled racks, from its facilities around the world.
Arm Host Processors Gain Share in Cloud Fleets
Arm said in April 2025 that close to 50% of the compute shipped to top hyperscalers in 2025 would be Arm-based, through chips such as AWS Graviton, Google Cloud Axion and Microsoft Cobalt. Rack-scale GPU systems that pair accelerators with Arm-based host processors add to that share. DC Market Insights estimates that servers with Arm host processors accounted for USD 96.10 billion (26.3%) of 2025 value and grow at 20.31% a year to USD 610.58 billion by 2035, when they reach 46.5% of the market.
Custom ASIC Servers Take a Third of Accelerated Value
Hyperscalers design their own accelerators to cut the cost of inference, and the servers that carry them are built by ODMs to the operator’s own specification. DC Market Insights values custom ASIC servers at USD 41.88 billion in 2025, 17.0% of accelerated server value, and forecasts USD 380.07 billion by 2035, when they reach 34.6% of the segment. GPU servers keep the lead at 61.5% in 2035 because new AI labs, GPU clouds and enterprises buy merchant platforms.
Market Challenges: What Holds the Data Center Server Market Back?
Memory costs and grid power are the two constraints that DC Market Insights expects to slow the Data Center Server Market in 2026 and 2027.
Server Memory Prices Rose 60% in Two Months
Memory is a large share of the bill of materials in both general-purpose and AI servers. Reuters reported in November 2025 that Samsung had raised the price of 32GB DDR5 server memory modules to USD 239 from USD 149 in September, an increase of 60%, as the race to build AI data centers absorbed supply. DC Market Insights attributes most of the 15.9% rise in general-purpose server value in 2026 to higher prices, with the effect fading after 2027.
Power Availability Caps Deliveries
A rack-scale AI system cannot ship until the hall that houses it has power and cooling. More than 23 GW of capacity was under construction worldwide at the end of September 2025, according to BloombergNEF; in the DC Market Insights view, the pace at which that capacity is energized sets the pace of AI server deliveries. Supplier backlogs show the gap: Dell entered fiscal 2027 with an AI backlog of USD 43 billion, which rose to USD 95 billion by the end of its second quarter.
Market Opportunities: Where Are the New Revenue Pools?
The two largest new revenue pools in the Data Center Server Market are government and sovereign AI buyers, growing at 18.18% a year, and GPU and neocloud providers, growing at 16.86% a year.
Sovereign AI Buyers Grow Server Spend to USD 133.93 Billion
Governments, national research centers and state-backed AI companies spent USD 25.21 billion on servers in 2025, and DC Market Insights forecasts USD 133.93 billion in 2035, more than five times the 2025 level. Most of that spend goes on accelerated systems, which make up 71.2% of the segment in 2025. The same buyers fund national supercomputers, covered in our High Performance Computing Market report.
GPU and Neocloud Providers Buy USD 204.84 Billion of Servers by 2035
Specialist GPU cloud operators spent USD 43.12 billion on servers in 2025, 95.6% of it on accelerated systems, and DC Market Insights forecasts USD 204.84 billion in 2035. NVIDIA said in August 2026 that its Vera Rubin platform was ramping into full production, with racks running at partners including CoreWeave, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Nebius.
Pricing: How Much Does a Data Center Server Cost?
A general-purpose data center server sold for about USD 9,450 on average in 2025, and an AI or accelerated server for about USD 178,500. These are DC Market Insights estimates of the average selling price at first sale, including memory, drives and networking cards shipped inside the server.
| Average selling price (USD thousand) | 2020 | 2025 | 2030 | 2035 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| General-purpose and storage-dense server | 6.90 | 9.45 | 11.40 | 12.60 |
| AI and accelerated server | 95.00 | 178.50 | 262.00 | 300.00 |
| AI share of server units | 0.9% | 9.9% | 17.2% | 17.7% |
General-purpose prices rise about 2.9% a year to 2035 as core counts, memory per server and drive capacity grow. AI server prices rise faster to 2030 as rack-scale systems with more accelerators per tray and larger high-bandwidth memory stacks replace eight-GPU boxes, then flatten as custom ASIC servers, which sell for less per unit, take a larger share.
Standards and Regulation: Which Rules Shape Data Center Servers?
Three sets of rules shape which servers a data center may buy: the European Union ecodesign regulation for servers, the US ENERGY STAR server specification, and US export controls on advanced AI chips.
EU Regulation 2019/424. The Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/424 on ecodesign requirements for servers and data storage products has applied since 1 March 2020. It sets idle state power limits starting at 25 W for single-socket servers, minimum active state efficiency of 9.0 for single-socket and 9.5 for dual-socket servers, and requires that joining, fastening or sealing techniques do not prevent the disassembly of key components for repair or reuse. Firmware availability requirements followed on 1 March 2021 and stricter power supply efficiency on 1 January 2023. Servers with more than four processor sockets, fully fault-tolerant servers and large servers are excluded.
ENERGY STAR Computer Servers Version 4.0. The US Environmental Protection Agency specification took effect on January 12, 2024 and added definitions for FPGAs and data processing units (DPUs).
US export controls. The US Department of Commerce rescinded the AI Diffusion Rule on May 14, 2025, before it took effect, and at the same time said that deploying Huawei Ascend 910B, 910C or 910D chips anywhere violates US export controls.

DC Exclusive: The Server Units × Price Model and Server Type × Buyer Matrix
At USD 150.91 billion in 2025, hyperscale AI and accelerated servers are the single largest cell of the matrix and 41.3% of all data center server spending. The matrix below cross-tabulates what is bought and who buys it. It is a DC Market Insights model, not a shipment count: it is built from 40 inputs: 32 unit and price series (16 years each of general-purpose and accelerated servers), 3 server-type splits and 5 buyer splits, and it was checked against the disclosed server revenue of 6 listed suppliers and the data center revenue of 3 chip suppliers.
| 2025, USD billion | AI and Accelerated | General-Purpose | Storage-Dense | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hyperscale Cloud Providers | 150.91 | 39.80 | 10.99 | 201.70 |
| Enterprises | 30.16 | 43.26 | 4.78 | 78.20 |
| GPU and Neocloud Providers | 41.22 | 1.41 | 0.49 | 43.12 |
| Government and Sovereign AI | 17.95 | 6.23 | 1.03 | 25.21 |
| Telecom and Other Service Providers | 6.09 | 10.35 | 0.73 | 17.17 |

Methodology: How We Built the Data Center Server Market Model
DC Market Insights built this market bottom-up from 16 annual unit cohorts (2020 to 2035) for two server families, general-purpose (including storage-dense) servers and AI and accelerated servers, each priced with an average selling price at first sale: USD 9,450 and USD 178,500 in 2025. The total was split by 3 server types, 3 processor architectures, 3 accelerator types, 4 form factors, 2 vendor models, 5 end-users and 5 regions, and every split sums to its parent total. The result was checked top-down against the disclosed server revenue of 6 listed suppliers (Dell, Supermicro, HPE, Lenovo, Inspur and Quanta), the data center revenue of 3 chip suppliers (NVIDIA, AMD and Intel) and published capacity and capital spending counts. NVIDIA’s fiscal 2026 Data Center compute revenue, about USD 162.36 billion after networking, sits inside the accelerated server value as the largest single component. Country values allocate each regional total by country weights for installed and new capacity. The analyst named on this page built the model, and the reviewer checked the arithmetic, the sources and the dates before publication.
